Top 5 Things to do in Slovenia

Slovenia is such a beautiful country with so much to discover, here are 3 of my favourite things to do – that you simply cannot leave the country without experiencing!

Take a Walk at Vintgar Gorge

Vintgar Gorge is a must do if you like nature, beautiful landscapes and waterfalls. The gorge is about 1600 meters long and is part of Triglav National Park, the walk takes about 1-2 hours each way depending on how busy it is and how many times you stop. The walk is very easy and the terrain is mostly wooden platforms, and then flat gravel, therefore not challenging at all. At the end of the walk you’ll end up at Waterfall Šum, which is just beautiful! Parking at the Gorge is 5 Euros per car (to be paid on entry in CASH ONLY), and entry prices are 5 Euros per adult too. Vintgar Gorge is a 45 minute drive from Ljubljana or a 7 minute drive from Lake Bled.

Eat at the Open Kitchen

The Open Kitchen is a must do, it’s essentially a huge street food market held in the city centre of Ljubljana, with twinkling lights, food and drink choices for everyone and the most amazing atmosphere! They serve food from all over the world, including vegan options and of course, wine too! The Open Kitchen is on every Friday evening at The Ljubljana Central Market.

Get a Coffee by Lake Bled

Lake Bled is absolutely stunning and is a must do during your time in Slovenia. When you visit make sure to stop by one of the many cafes or restaurants for a cup of coffee. They serve lovely coffee and if you’re lucky, some tiny little birds may even join you. This really is the best place to relax with the most amazing view too! Lake Bled is a 40 minute drive from Ljubljana centre.

Explore Predjama Castle

Predjama Castle is the world’s largest cave castle, and is one you have to explore during your visit! It is more than 800 years old and sits on a 123 meter high cliff, with so much history to learn, you will leave with new insights on Slovenia’s past. There are a few restaurants nearby, and I’d highly recommend stopping for a coffee and an apple strudel. There is so much to do in the area and you can buy tickets that grant access to it all, however the castle ticket alone costs 14 Euros per adult.

Stroll Around Ljubljana City Centre

Ljubljana is by far one of my favourite European cities, the buildings are beautiful and there are so many lovely restaurants and features to visit. Make sure you support some local businesses and grab a few souvenirs too! Don’t leave without seeing:

  • Ljubljana Castle
  • Dragon Bridge
  • Prešeren Square
  • Ljubljana Cathedral
  • Butchers’ Bridge
  • Triple Bridge

Happy travels! I hope you have the best time exploring Slovenia. Please feel free to comment or use the contact form if you have any questions!

As always, love Elise x
