A Less-Touristy, but Incredibly Beautiful Italian Lake.

Northern Italy is a picturesque, mountainous area filled with lakes, countryside views and quaint towns. The lakes in Northern Italy are very popular among tourists, they have managed to keep their charm, beauty and authentic style. When someone mentions Italian lakes, the first thing that often comes to mind is Lake Como and Lake Garda – both are gorgeous lakes that are huge in size and consist of many towns. But, look in between the two, just East of Bergamo and you’ll find Lake Iseo. Lake Iseo is a much smaller, slightly less-touristy area, which means you can experience more of it’s charm without the hustle and bustle of popular, touristy areas.

As you. can see from the photos, you’re not missing out on anything by going to Lake Iseo instead or Lake Como or Garda. I highly recommend going for a long walk around the lake when you come here, and weaving in and out some of the town’s streets, and that is where you’ll see the beautiful views Italy has to offer. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and gelato stands along the lake as well as in the town, so you’ll be spoiled for choice. Unfortunately we didn’t have time, however if you do, I’d highly recommend going on a boat ride, whether that be a private boat trip, or a quick trip on the ferry to the other side, definitely add this to your itinerary! There are also boat trips to  Monte Isola, a little island on the lake, which is a must do when you’re visiting Lake Iseo. Another fun activity to do, and to maximise how much you see in the area is hiring a bike and taking a tour around the lake, only take on the full route if you are fully equip and able to do so.

I hope you have a wonderful time exploring Lake Iseo, let me know what you think!

As always, love Elise x

  1. I haven’t heard of Lake Iseo before, but I did go to Lake Como as a day trip from Milan. It was a bit rushed trying to fit three of the towns along the lake, but it’s without a doubt that the lakes in northern Italy are STUNNING. Thanks for sharing a place I haven’t been to yet!
